This book was written for the men and women of Lukos — the Wolfpack.
“For the strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack.” — Rudyard Kipling, The Law of the Jungle
1AI for Lukos Professionals¶
1.1The Wolfpack’s Edge — A Field Manual for the Lukos Team¶

1.2Who Is Lukos?¶
Lukos is the ancient Greek word for wolf.
That wasn’t an accident when the company was named. Founded in Tampa, Florida in 2008 as a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business, Lukos Group chose the wolf deliberately — because the characteristics of the wolf match its approach to national security. Cunning. Aggression. Patience. Teamwork. An individual wolf is a smart, strong, resilient animal. But the true strength of wolves is their ability to work together as a wolfpack.
Since 2010, Lukos has grown into one of the most successful and most diversified support companies for US Special Operations Command and its components — operating across 25 states and several foreign countries, supporting all five services and federal civilian agencies, ISO 9001:2015 certified, and fielding a bench of professionals that reads like a who’s-who of the SOF community.
The Lukos mission: professional services to the Federal Government, spanning training and operations support, healthcare, medical training, acquisition program support, systems engineering, R&D, logistics planning, and human performance maximization.
But what Lukos may be most known for in the SOF ecosystem is this:
Over 45,000 lessons learned collected, analyzed, and operationalized for the U.S. Special Operations community.
That number is not a database count. It represents decades of hard-earned institutional knowledge — post-deployment debriefs, exercise AARs, program evaluations, working group outputs, and the kind of candid organizational reflection that most institutions avoid and Lukos has made into a competitive advantage. Lukos is the trusted leader for Lessons Learned in the U.S. Special Operations community, running a team of 40+ strategists with proprietary GRASP and Maturity Models, and a mission built on three tenets:
“Elite Capability Demands Elite Reflection”
“Brutal Candor: The Wire Brush of Excellence”
“Life-or-Death Stakes Require Precision Learning”
“Knowledge is a Weapon: Subject Matter Experts are the Arsenal”
That 45,000-lesson library is the foundation. This book is about what happens when you point AI at it.
1.3Who This Book Is For¶
You’ve spent years mastering your craft — running AARs for J7, building experimentation frameworks for USSOCOM, managing contracts for a forward-deployed Lukos team, or serving as the site lead who holds seventeen things together at once. You are exceptionally good at what you do.
You have probably not had a real AI briefing.
Not the breathless headline version. Not the vendor demo. A real one — where someone sits down with you and explains, with the same rigor you bring to mission work, exactly what these tools are, what they’re good for, what they’ll get wrong, and how to deploy them like a professional.
That’s this book.
The Wolfpack’s Edge is the companion to the two-day intensive AI course for the Lukos team, developed and delivered by Dr. Ernesto Lee and Professor Carlos Marquez of Miami Dade College. Read it before class to get grounded. Bring it to class to follow along. Keep it after class when you’re building your first Gem at 10 PM and need to remember which setting to click.
Every example in this book comes from the world you actually work in: Lessons Learned, experimentation support, foreign partner engagement, acquisition, behavioral health, training development, ORSA analysis. No generic corporate AI examples. Just your work, running faster.
1.4📋 Before You Begin: AI Readiness Assessment¶
Before class, take five minutes to complete the Lukos AI Readiness Gap Assessment. It tells Dr. Lee and Professor Marquez where the pack is starting from — and helps you identify your own gaps before we address them together.
→ Complete the AI Readiness Gap Assessment
1.5What You’ll Be Able to Do¶
By the time you’ve worked through this book and the accompanying class, you will be able to:
Brief an AI the same way you’d brief a new analyst — with precision and context that produces elite output
Build Gems (custom AI personas) for every Lukos use case, from Lessons Learned synthesis to contract plain-English translation
Run NotebookLM as a research partner across entire program document libraries
Evaluate AI models using live benchmarks so you always pick the right tool for the task
Identify and prevent hallucination with the discipline you bring to source verification
Deploy Antigravity agents — synthetic teammates that work your workflows autonomously
Deploy AI at the edge on air-gapped or restricted networks using Gemma and LM Studio
Build a Lukos AI Operating Model — not a wish list, a real one with roles, workflows, and checkpoints

1.7How to Use This Book¶
Before class: Complete the readiness assessment. Read the Prologue and Chapter 1. Do the individual exercises.
During class: Each module maps to a chapter. The Hands-On sections are your lab guides — exact steps, exact URLs, exact clicks.
After class: The appendices are your production toolkit. Appendix B has every Gem, ready to paste.
When you’re in a hurry: Every chapter ends with a Pack Debrief — a one-page BLUF. Start there when you need to recall something fast.
1.8A Note on OPSEC¶
Everything in this book uses commercially available, unclassified tools. The Field Notes section of each chapter flags OPSEC considerations — what to upload, what never to upload, and how to maintain information hygiene with AI tools.
Chapter 10 covers AI at the edge: offline deployment on isolated or air-gapped networks.
